I'd already gone through a Jazz Chorus and a G-K 250ML and started missing the real tubes by that point. It was cool but it didn't convince me to switch over. Tubeworks 'Mosvalve' amps were pretty popular for 15 minutes - I think they were tube pre-amps and MOSFET power amps (kind of like a reverse Music Man) I left a band and the guy who came in after me played one of those. I think now they're are so omnipresent that they don't even bother bragging that things are MOSFET anymore. They are supposed to sound more musical and have more clarity than bipolar transistors.Įverybody had a MOSFET amp they were trying to hype after a while.
They were a big deal in the 80's as the next big thing for transistor amps in both guitar and hifi. As posted, MOSFET's are the kind of power transistor used.
